["Paper Bullets"]
I am a Japanese/Scottish/Iroquois American heterosexual male 80’s baby raised in Richmond, CA, currently living with my wife in El Cerrrito, CA. I am a work in progress and not unbiased. I am a writer and a lover of all things Hip-Hop. I am a student and an educator. I am self-hate and self-love in a cage match fight to the death. I am simultaneously grateful to live in America, and also believe that I live in a racist, classist, sexist, homophobic, morally bankrupt society that is capable of being so much better.
To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget.

Excuse my French emotion and my passion – but I wear my heart on my sleeve like it’s the new fashion…

Subversive joy is the ability to transform tears into laughter, a laughter that allows one to acknowledge just how difficult the journey is, and to delight in one’s own sense of humanity and folly and humor in the midst of this very serious struggle. This is true freedom of spirit.
-Cornel West
How does one keep from “growing old inside”? Surely only in community. The only way to make friends with time is to stay friends with people…. Taking community seriously not only gives us the companionship we need, it also relieves us of the notion that we are dispensable.

Hey Colin,
My name is David and I’m over at SFSU taking an Asian American Studies class with Professor Wei-Ming Dariotis. She assigned your new album The Literary Ca[n]non as a research topic for our class which was pretty cool. The CD is awesome btw and I was pleasantly surprised listening to it. If someone in our class was interested in an interview with you, would you be down? Also we can’t find the lyrics to the songs on the cd, but we might be able to use it in our papers. Please drop me an email sometime.
